Notes:

1.  27 September [1876]
Dating by comparison of writing and paper is confirmed by JW's account with John S. Charles (fl. 1876-1887), fishmonger in Pimlico, London [more], which included a bill for whiting and oyster on 25 September 1876 (#08848).

2.  ADS
Written on laid paper with watermark `T & T KE[NT]' (T & T in copperplate script) like #06878.

3.  potage
The menu, written in French, consisted of tomato soup, fried whiting, oyster paté or pie, mutton cutlets, roast beef, pancakes, cheese and coffee.
