A la suite de votre cordial télégramme du 16 Janvier[2] et en attendant la lettre que vous avez eu l'obligeance de nous promettre, je prends la liberté de vous renouveler ma prière au sujet de votre concours à l'Exposition de Venise[3].

Parmi vos admirables tableaux, ceux que ma Ville serait particulièrement fière de recevoir, ceux qu'elle sollicite de tout son coeur sont les suivants:

Blue and Coral[4] - The little blue Bonnet
[p. 2] Grey and Silver[5] - La petite souris
The Piano picture[6]
Rose and Silver[7] - La Princesse des Pays de la Porcelaine.
Rose and Brown[8] - The Philosopher

Veuillez, je vous prie, nous donner au plus tôt la bonne nouvelle, afin que nous puissions prendre toutes les dispositions nécéssaires en vue du transport et de l'assurance des tableaux.

Si vous avez quelque volonté spéciale à nous exprimer au sujet de l'envoi ou du placement de vos oeuvres, veuillez aussi nous le dire.

Si vous le désirez, notre secrétaire général Mr. le Prof. Fradeletto[9], que vous connaissez, ira exprès [p. 3] à Paris pour prendre avec vous tous les concerts nécéssaires.

Dear Mr Whistler,

Following your cordial telegram of the 16th of January in awaiting your letter which you were so kind as to promise us, I am taking the liberty of renewing my request to you on the subject of your participation in the Exhibition of Venice.

Amongst your admirable paintings, those that my Town would be particularly proud to receive, those which it solicits with all its heart are the following:

Blue and CoralThe little blue Bonnet
[p. 2] Grey and SilverThe little mouse
The Piano picture
Rose and Silver – The Princess of the Land of Porcelain.
Rose and Brown – The Philosopher

Please, I do beg you, give us the good news as soon as possible, so that we can make all the necessary arrangements in respect of the transportation and insurance of the paintings.

If you have some special wish to express to us on the subject of the dispatch or the arrangement of your works, please also let us know.

Is you wish, our General Secretary, Professor Fradeletto, whom you know, will go to Paris especially to make all the necessary agreements with you.
