Dear Sir, --
I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your very kind letter[2] enclosing the proofs necessary to introduce the painting[3] which I purchased from you free of duty as the work of an American artist.
I trust that by the time you receive this latter [sic], the picture will be well on its way, as I am anxious to see it, and hope to derive great pleasure from its possession.
I enclose you a draft for 840 pounds on the London bank, in accordance with your request, which I trust you will find correct, and I hope when you pay your expected visit[4] to this country you will not fail to redeem the promise contained in your letter to call on me.
I shall be glad to place the picture at your disposal for the Chicago exhibition[5] as requested by you, and have to thank you for the care which you have expended in the proper packing of the painting.
