[p. 3] The Lange Leizen is now on its way to Philadelphia, in a tin lined case.
The American committee seem to be considering the question of sending the Carlyle to Chicago but the high insurance £80 seems to make them hesitate - Had the insurance been done three months ago it might have been only £40 or £50 -
The Academy opens on Monday - a poor poor show, altho' the worst pictures are perhaps not quite so bad as usual - There are Leaders & Leightons & followers thereof by the score[.] [p. 4] The best picture is probably Brangwyn's Slave Market & Sargent portrait & one or two landscapes, but as a rule it is awful.
The New Gallery is better & it is certainly better hung & more distinguished.
Trusting you are well
Yours very truly
