After a good deal of negotiation we have sold the "Lange Leizen" to Mr. John G. Johnson of Philadelphia U S A. for £600. He made this offer & said he could not give more & we have at length arranged the matter with the Newcastle owner.
[p. 2] We write to ask if you will be kind enough to go to the Consul & make the declaration necessary & we enclose the expenses which we trust will be satisfactory.
Mr Johnson is lending some pictures by other artists to Chicago & if you would like the Lange Leizen to go there we feel sure it can be arranged as we propose to send the picture off at once.
We have now a number of sets of the Album ready for signature & we now propose to publish them as the business [p. 3] affairs are a little better. We have orders for 14 signed & 12 unsigned & we can send you the royalty now due (£10. 10/- being half the amount as arranged) or £21 if you are at liberty to sign these at once. Please pardon this apparent "business" arrangement but having an agreement we are required to adhere to it.
If you should happen to be coming to London it would of course be better if the signatures were made here, but if [p. 4] this is not likely we shall send them over & ask you to do them as soon as you can.
Your kind attention & reply will oblige
Yours very truly
