Dear Mr Whistler.

your registered letter[2] reached me here (where I am on holiday) several days ago. only.

What I meant by the underselling was of course of others & referred to my communication with both Boston & Philadelphia who stated that they had offers of pictures much cheaper than mine. I have been rather desponding not over your pictures but about things generally.

Your information about "Le Brodequin jaune[3]" is correct except for the fact that the sale did not happen "months ago" (if it had you should have heard of it months [p. 2] ago). The sale is taking place now! The picture is in transit & I shall consider the sale concluded when I receive the price arranged for (6.000 dols.)

With regard to the Fur jacket[4] I certainly should have been loath to sell it for £500 but I may mention that before receiving the offer for the other I did offer it at £750. I note that you keep the little pastel[5].

Why don't you send me the little Red Reading girl[6] for it.

I trust your prophecy may be right about the price we are going to get for the Fur Jacket as the picture costs more every year.

With kind regards & trusting to have the pleasure of seeing you soon in Paris
Yours faithfully

Alex Reid.
