BROOK'S,
ST JAMES'S STREET.
My dear Whistler
Mr Thompson[2] of Boussod Valladon has I understand acquainted you with our objection to his having had varnished the White Girl[3], the Blue wave[4] &c.
I must say, that on seeing the pictures, they [p. 2] appear to me immensely improved by the cleaning.
If you are equally satisfied with the execution of the work by Mr Richards[5], so shall I be.
Let me congratulate you on your show[6]; it is splendid, & ought to silence [p. 3] the Philistines. Miss Alexander[7], Carlyle[8], & two of ours - please me most.
Please accept my congratulations
Yours Sincerely
J C Potter
