My dear Mr. Whistler:-
Will you not kindly favor me by sending your etching[2] to the Grand Palais des Beaux Arts to-morrow morning. We desire to begin hanging and will necessarily be delayed, unless your work arrives on time. Let me just add a word and tell how pleased we all are with your contributions to the American Exhibit[3]. They are the centers of attraction for admiring groups and I almost feel as if some tablets should be placed upon them as the "butterfly" is not known to all those who enthuse over your works.
