Dated from likely connection with Munich Exhibition (see note below).
2. JW
List written in pencil in the hand of Charles James Whistler Hanson (1870-1935), engineer, son of JW and Louisa Fanny Hanson [more], who was then acting as JW's secretary. See also #04203, #04204. The list relates to 3rd Internationale Kunst-Austellung, Munich, 1888 which opened in July 1888. JW sent a large group of works - thirteen oils, twenty watercolours, seven pastels and thirty etchings. #04204 is the declaration which JW sent with his works to Munich. Amongst the oils were Arrangement in Black: La Dame au brodequin jaune - Portrait of Lady Archibald Campbell (YMSM 242), No. 2 on this list, and Harmony in Grey and Green: Miss Cicely Alexander (YMSM 129).
3. Robert Koehler
Robert Koehler (1850-1917), painter and etcher [more].
4. Arrangement in Grey & Black - The Mother ... Grey & Green - Loches
The works included Arrangement in Grey and Black: Portrait of the Painter's Mother (YMSM 101), Nocturne: Black and Gold - The Fire Wheel (YMSM 169) and possibly Nocturne in Black and Gold: The Gardens (YMSM 166).
5. America
Nos 42-46 were probably intended for the Wunderlich Gallery in New York. JW was planning an exhibition there in October although it did not finally take place until the following spring ('Notes' - 'Harmonies' - 'Nocturnes', H. Wunderlich and Co., New York, 1889).
