Notes:

1.  [1 January 1879?]
An incomplete version of this form was filled in and dated 1 January 1879 (J. A. Rose to C. A. Howell, #11682).

2.  Charles Augustus Howell
Charles Augustus ('Owl') Howell (1840? - d.1890), entrepreneur [more].

3.  ARRANGEMENT IN GREY AND BLACK,
Arrangement in Grey and Black: Portrait of the Painter's Mother (YMSM 101). After the Whistler v. Ruskin trial, Algernon Graves arranged for the exhibition of the picture before it was returned for engraving to Josey (Graves to JW, 26 November 1878, #01798). Howell organised subscriptions and on 1 May 1879 JW sold Howell the copyright, at which time the portrait was still being engraved (#02835). The engraving was probably published by the end of 1879.

4.  RICHARD JOSEY
Richard Josey (1840-1906), reproductive engraver [more]. Josey also engraved Arrangement in Grey and Black, No. 2: Portrait of Thomas Carlyle (YMSM 137) (see #11682, #02785).
