Dear Mr Whistler,
Do you please come & dine with us, about [p. 2] eight. -
I don't know yet whether we are dining at home or in some haunt of vice.
If you will let me know whether we shall have the bonne fortune of seeing you, I will tell you as soon as we have [p. 3] decided, where to meet us. -
1. [October 1900/1901]
Dated from the address and reference to Menpes (see below).
Mortimer Luddington Menpes (1860-1938), artist [more]. This appears to relate to the proposed publication of a book by Menpes, either Menpes, Mortimer, and Dorothy Menpes, Japan, a Record in Colour, London, 1901, or War Impressions, Being a record in colour by M. Menpes. Transcribed by Dorothy Menpes, London, . Both were eventually published by Adam and Charles Black. The subject is mentioned in another letter from JW to M. Heinemann, #02092.
