Alexander Reid Esq

My dear Sir

Having seen your Whistler at the World's Fair "Princess of the Land of Porcelain[3]" - I have wished to include it in my slide illustrations for lectures on the History of Art and also to use a half-tone photograph inof it in a little book I am about to have published on "Renaissance and Modern Art[4]"

Both your own wishes and Mr Whistler's are to be consulted in this matter and should your decision be favorable I would beg you to forward him my letter for his own reply.

For the advice of Mr Whistler and yourself as to my own standing I will say that I am the author of a work on Greek ornament - "The Grammar of the Lotus[5]" (Sampson Low) of a "History of Art" (A. S. Barnes N.Y.) of a history of "Roman and Medieval Art" (Chantauqua Reading Circle, Flood & Vincent 150 Fifth Ave N. Y-) - Lectures on Art [p. 2] History in the Cooper Institute N. Y. Brooklyn Institute N Y C - also that I have great admiration for Mr. Whistler as an artist and a man -

Professor Ives[6], Chief of the Art Palace at the Fair, has allowed me to have a negative taken from this picture and to deposit it with him - to be destroyed by him in case your permission and that of Mr. Whistler should not be obtained -

As regards my little book an early answer would favor as it will soon go to press.

Respectfully Yours

Wm Henry Goodyear
