3.  ARRANGEMENT IN BROWN AND GOLD
JW's solo exhibition, 'Notes' - 'Harmonies' - 'Nocturnes', Second Series, Messrs Dowdeswell, London, 1886, featured 75 oils, watercolours, pastels and drawings and a catalogue designed by JW. The gallery was decorated in a scheme of brown and gold, the same colour in which the butterfly signature of this letter appears.
