Notes:

1.  Jeffrey Whitehead
Jeffrey Whitehead (b. ca 1832), stockbroker and collector [more].

2.  Ernest George Brown
Ernest George Brown (1853 or 1854-1915), assistant manager at the Fine Art Society [more].

3.  medal
JW was awarded the medal for Arrangement in Grey and Black: Portrait of the Painter's Mother (YMSM 101) at the 101st exhibition, Ouvrages de peinture, sculpture, architecture, gravure et lithographie des artistes vivants, Palais des Champs Elysées, Paris, 1883. For some unknown reason, it found its way into Whitehead's hands. JW asked him via Brown whether he would return it in exchange for a drawing or etching (see E. G. Brown to J. Whitehead, #01384).

4.  Michael Angelo
Michelangelo Buonarotti (1475-1564), sculptor and painter [more].
