Dear Mr. Whistler,

I know you will be amused and interested in the enclosed pamphlet[2] which has been sent to me from New York. A more ridiculous jumble I never read. It seems to be an official thing too[.] I think you ought to "go for" the compilers. It has taken two of them to do it.

[p. 2] Your lithographs[3] have been moved into the outer room today.

Yours sincerely

Ernest G. Brown

Notes:

1.  Ernest George Brown
Ernest George Brown (1853 or 1854-1915), assistant manager at the Fine Art Society [more].

2.  pamphlet
Unidentified.

3.  lithographs
JW's lithographs were then on show at Mr Whistler's Lithographs, The Fine Art Society, London, 1895.

4.  pencil drawing and note
Plan of a room (M.1452). The pencil drawing is possibly in JW's hand. It could relate to the search for a house and studio in London. The pencil note is in another hand and does not appear to relate to it.

5.  Chrismolene
Probably a brand name for liquid petroleum, which was used in household lamps.
