Dear Mr Huish -
I have done the impossible and send you by todays post four superb proofs - Two of the "Doorway" - & two of the Beggars -
You would be most unwise to ask less than 15 - gs - apiece - and ought to have 20 -
Kindly let me know of their safe arrival at once -
[p. 2] The parcel must be undone with the greatest possible care as these proofs are on Japanese and most "fragile"
I will write more about them -
J McN Whistler -
The proofs must of course be pressed again at once - but with such care! -
2. 'Doorway' & two of the Beggars
The Doorway (K.188) and The Beggars (K.194), etchings from Mr Whistler's Etchings of Venice, 1880 (the first 'Venice Set') (K. 183-189, 191-195). (excat 5). On 8 June, M. B. Huish had asked JW to print two proofs each of K.188 and K.194 (see M. B. Huish to JW, #01270, #01271).
This word is double underlined, as is the word 'fragile' below.
