Sept 17th 1892

Dear Mr Whistler,

We are shortly going to make an exhibition of your Venice etchings but I find it difficult to manage without some more proofs of "The Beggars[2]" and "The Doorway"[.] Could you find time to print the rest of them or at any rate a few more. We should be very much obliged if you could do this. People want to see the impression they buy - [p. 2] Will you also kindly send me the destroyed plate of "The Palaces[3]"[.] I want to have a frame made for it.

The damaged proofs[4] were beautifully mended so that it was almost impossible to detect the hole.

We are going to advance the prices to the sums you suggest but we will write to you again upon the subject[.] When you are printing "The Beggars["] and "The Doorway" will you please mark one of each "selected" for me the same as you did for Mr Howard Mansfield[5].

Yours faithfully

Ernest G. Brown.

J. A. M. Whistler Esq
