Dear Mr Whistler.
I have been putting off answering your letter[2] for I have been expecting daily to be able to report to you as to the post office: but though high functionaries have been here nothing has [p. 2] been done. They value the damage at s11/- or rather that is the proportion of the insurance they suggest paying - We have had them mended so skilfully that no one could tell the difference. Only one package was opened by the C. H.[3] officials & that was not the damaged ones - By the way these proofs are liable to confiscation if they have not upon them the place where they were [p. 3] printed - even if this has been in England - A number have lately been stopped & confiscated & it is lucky none of these were - Its a hint for future works - I think it only requires putting on the bottom & could be cut off directly they reach this side.
We propose to raise the price of the Beggars[4] & the Doorway[5] but you shall [p. 4] hear fully as to this directly we start preparations for the Exhibition of them.
Sincerely yrs
Marcus B Huish
