July 2nd 1892

Dear Mr Whistler,

The parcel containing eight proofs of "The Beggars[2]" and six of "The Doorway[3]" is pierced right through, nearly in the centre with what appears to be a large pair of scissors. It has been done in trying to put the strings through to do the parcel up after it was examined. The parcels [p. 2] were beautifully done up and there is no excuse for it. It is a grievous thing as they are the most lovely impressions.

Yours very truly

Ernest G. Brown.

J. A. M. Whistler Esq
