My dear Whistler

I am very sorry that our hoped for Exhibition next May is not to come off but the reasons against it seem conclusive & I trust that its postponement will result in increased benefits for [p. 2] all concerned. Many thanks for what you say[2] as to the future of our efforts to make it successful.

I trust that this Entente cordiale[3] may be mutually satisfactory. You may depend upon our doing our utmost to make it so.

It will be well for you to give us notice [p. 3] directly you are in sight of the desired completion for already we are fixed up for May 1891.

It grieves me to think that these Dutch etchings[4] will not illumine the world as soon as I expected.

[Very?] truly yrs

Marcus B Huish
