Dated by reference to The Beach, Ostend (K.354), etched presumably on JW's visit to Belgium in the autumn of 1887.
2. 1 proof The Little Hat
The etchings listed were The Little Hat (K.335), Doorway, Gray's Inn (K.300), The Barber's (K.271), Old Battersea Bridge (K.177) and The Beach, Ostend (K.354). All dated from 1887 except Old Battersea Bridge (K.177), which had been bought and published by the FAS in 1879: the low price probably covered JW's printing costs rather than the full cost of an impression of this large and important print. The high prices for Doorway, Gray's Inn (K.300) and The Barber's (K.271) may reflect their rarity, for they were printed in very small editions.
3. Printing 5 dozen
The FAS commissioned and published Mr Whistler's Etchings of Venice, 1880 (the first 'Venice Set') (K. 183-189, 191-195). (excat 5). A guinea (£1.1.0) for printing twelve impressions of any of these etchings was quite a modest fee. JW continually re-negotiated the charge for printing impressions for the edition, which was still incomplete at his death.
