My dear Whistler,

I find that I shall need a certain sum of money by next week; a more pressing need than I had expected.

I should therefore be greatly relieved if Mr Ionides[3], or some other of your friends could be tempted to purchase the picture[4]. - If you have not already done so, perhaps you will not mind writing to Mr Ionides, as you suggested. -

How I wish it were possible for you to buy!
