Dear Jim

I only heard of the Policies & saw them for the first time this Monday morning at Brighton

I left Liverpool on Friday night & up to that time I had heard nothing more from you - much less from Dowdeswell[2] - who I see in his telegram says they were despatched on Wednesday - as a matter of fact they did not get to L'pool till Saturday afternoon

I go to L'pool tomorrow Tuesday morning & shall despatch the Pictures on Wednesday morning to Dowdeswell or wherever else he advises me - Hope they will be in good time

[Ever yrs?]

Alfred Chapman

Notes:

1.  Alfred Chapman
Alfred Chapman (1839-1917), engineer and collector [more].

2.  Dowdeswell
JW's dealers Dowdeswell & Dowdeswell. Chapman had agreed to lend Nocturne: Blue and Silver - Bognor (YMSM 100) to the Exposition, Galerie Durand-Ruel, Paris, 1888. However, there seems to have been some difficulty arranging insurance cover whilst YMSM 100 and another work - Nocturne: Grey and Gold - Chelsea Snow (YMSM 174), bound for Munich - were in transit. The picture was eventually sent via Dowdeswell's and insured with Lloyd's for £350. See A. Chapman to JW, #00578, #00579, #00580 and letter draft, JW to A. Chapman, #02229, A. Chapman to Dowdeswells,' #00582.
