Dear Whistler

Mr John Cavafy[2] (talking plain English) seems to me to be a dishonest rogue, and I should be pleased to tell him so -

I have seen of course all that has passed except the telegram in which he informed you that Goupil & Co[3] declined to raise their offer -

But I do not believe that it can have contained any reservation of rights on [p. 2] his part: else I should have heard of it & you would not have sent the telegram of June 8 -

The negotiations were plain enough for honest dealing: therefore my conclusion about Mr C. is logical -

You will observe that from June 8 to 10 he makes no sign.

Sincerely yours

J C Bancroft
