IJW suspected that Carmen Rossi, model, proprietess of the Académie Carmen [more], was selling works from his studio, including Rose et or: La Napolitaine (YMSM 505). He was able to recover this portrait for 8500 francs through tortuous and somewhat shady negotiations with Carmen and Georges Petit, a Paris dealer, as a result of the Addams's investigations (see C. Addams to JW, #00110, #00112; JW to C. Addams, #00113; I. Addams to JW, #00119; and G. Bergaud to C. Addams, #04637).
