Very glad to get a note[4] from you - and of course Jimmy will do it when it comes - at present there is nothing - had it come this morning I should have returned it by this same post so that you would have got it back by tomorrow - as it is I dont see how you can have it before Tuesday - for [p. 2] we cant Register here on Sundays - It may be here before Seven this evening in which case I will send it off tonight and then you will get it first thing on Monday morning or perhaps tomorrow evening[.] It ought to be here before this.
How are you all? We are both working like niggers - I am printing Etchings[5] - would [p. 3] you like a few
Will you thank Mr Child[6] for his pretty telegram & tell him he had better write to Jimmy about the "Ten o'clock"[7] -
You never gave me the address of your Wine Merchant[,] do send it and does he give credit?
Say many things de ma part à Madame[8] et a mon[sieur] et Madame [p. 4] Eugéne[9] - Is there any news of Henri[10]?
I thought if I didnt write to explain the delay you would think all your "Quick Quick Quicks" were wasted words - You shall have it returned to you at once so dont fear. Much love to you both.

For once, Lucas did not record sending or receiving a letter to JW or Maud; it later emerges that he had sent JW an etching to be signed, which JW refused to do (see Mahey, op. cit., no. XXV, and Maud's letter to G. A. Lucas, 26 October 1886, #09210)
5. I am printing Etchings
A Set of twenty-six etchings of Venice, 1886 (the second 'Venice set') (K.196-216, 233-237). (excat 6). This is the only record of Maud Franklin being involved in printing. JW had several other assistants including Mortimer Luddington Menpes (1860-1938), artist [more], and Walter Richard Sickert (1860-1942), artist and writer on art [more].
