March 4.
Dear Sir -
Rawlinson[3] - I dont think it is at all necessary to send the picture over here - Let it go to Richards[4] - unless Mr Rawlinson prefers his own man Dyer [5]-
"The Fur Jacket[6]": You shall have that -
Hon. Mrs Wyndham[7]. Tell Richards that I am not sure that this picture was ever varnished - to deal with it very delicately in cleaning - and finally give beautiful coat of varnish - Let me know if the dam accident to the canvas was a very bad one - and if he thinks he can repair it so that no trace [is left]
Cards - Send cards to Madame la Baronne d'Estournel[8] Write on the card itself Monsieur & Madame d'Estournel. Will send this later - with address.
Catalogue - On first page, as a text, above or quotation :
"I do not know when so much amusement has been afforded to the British Public as by Mr Whistler's pictures."
Speech of the Attorney General[9] of England
Westminster, Nov. 16. 1878.
You might have a rough list set up of the whole lot of paintings - on paper the size of pages of Catalogue - Leave larger margins than even hitherto - that I may see how many pages it would run to -
Send two or three proofs that I may cut up and experiment with -
Very truly Yrs
J. McN. Whistler
