Notes:

1.  [1881/1882]
Dated by butterfly signature.

2.  Thomas Waldo Story
Published in Maggs Bros, London, sale catalogue 451, 1924, p. 408, cat. no. 1549, where the recipient is identified as Thomas Waldo Story (1854-1915), sculptor [more]. This letter was originally associated with an envelope to Margaret ('Margie') Elizabeth Cole (b. ca 1860, m. 1879), née Clark, wife of Alan S. Cole [more], postmarked 16 December 1884 (#13333), but the butterfly signature on the letter is of an earlier form and the tone of JW's letter makes it much more likely that it was to Story.

3.  THE FIELDING
The Fielding Club was a gentleman's club at 37, King Street, to which JW seems to have belonged between about 1882 and 1884.

4.  Mrs George Lewis
Elisabeth Lewis (1844-1931), née Eberstadt, wife of G. H. Lewis [more].
