March 19 / 90.

J. McNeill Whistler Esq.

Dear Sir,

Through the Courtesy of a gentleman whom you know, I had the pleasure of seeing your new plates[2], the proofs on Japan paper of which pleased me very much. Will you not kindly send us such trial proofs of these plates as you may have, as often these are of as much interest to the Collector as the "finished" ones. Mr Freer[3] for reasons of his own does not wish any one to know of his late visit, so as I am not to mention the matter to any one, I have to write you personally & not in the name of H. W & Co. I hope that you will send to the firm [p. 2][4] by next mail, at least one of each of your charming new plates.

I am dear Sir,
Yours respectfully

H. Wunderlich & Co

Kennedy.

P S. The above signature is force of habit.
