May 23 / 88.

Dear Sir,

The enclosed circular[2], I trust, will meet with your approval.

It is needless to say that the gentlemen whose names are attached to it, would be gratified to have your assistance and co-operation in their praiseworthy effort to revive public interest in pure etching. They feel that the exhibition would be neither complete nor successful without it, and would be pleased to know that you intend to contribute at least one plate. The exhibitors will be artists who are identified with the best form of etching, such as Samuel Coleman[3], Platt[4], Parrish[5], Chase[6][,] Blum[7] &c. &c, and if they are made aware of the fact that you are going to exhibit, they will do their level best, the standard of work will be raised [p. 2][8] or elevated, rather, and all concerned can confidently look forward to an exhibition which will be creditable to the exhibitors and to American Art. Will you assist us? I should be pleased to hear from you at your convenience,

and am, dear Sir,
Yours very respectfully,

E. G. Kennedy.

for the Committee.

J. McN. Whistler Esq.
