Dear Mr Whistler,
I saw Mr Pennell[2] today - There is a slight misunderstanding about the portrait of a little daughter[3] of Sir William Eden[4] painted by Mr Swan[5] which was not offered for sale to me, but to the [p. 2] Fine Art Society by Sir William Eden. At the request of Mr Brown[6], the manager I went to see it, and an offer was invited. I was given to understand that it could be got for less than the price paid, Sir William Eden not being pleased with it.
I am sorry to hear from Mr Pennell that you are unwell and hope that you [p. 3] may soon be better again.
With kind regards, I remain
Dear Mr Whistler
Yours sincerely
E J van Wisselingh
