These notes were made in preparation for Whistler, James McNeill, The Gentle Art of Making Enemies, London, 1890, or for Ford's edition of the letters (see below). Dated from known association of Ford and JW - the relationship soured in the summer of 1889.

A crusade against nude subjects was led by John Calcott Horsley (1817-1903), historical genre painter and etcher [more]. It earned him the nickname 'Clothes Horsley'.
