'No. 89'[3]

[topographical colour illustration with caption:] CARLSBAD.

Bohéme.

July 26. 1868.

My dear little Girl of 13 years -

I cannot allow the day of your birth aniversary [sic] to pass without sending you these few lines from far away to assure you how my dear you are to me, & to bear testemony [sic] to your always having been a good & dutiful daughter every one of your 13 years of life - One day you will probably understand better than you now can what a real happiness it is to a Father when he can write his Daughter of 13 years as I write you to day -

Godbless you my dear Child - from your Father

G. W W.

NB. Tell Ross[4] I dont forget that he is a Good Boy, & that when he is 13 I expect to have as great happiness in writing him as I have had in writing you - Tom[5] & Neva[6] have no birth days just at this time, so they must await their turn -
