To
B. D. Woodward Esq -
Dear Sir
Mr Whistler, who has been ill here for the last two months as you may have seen, has instructed me to answer your letter[3] which has followed him here.
I am to Say, he will be greatly pleased to receive the diplomas of Award, which he takes to be the two grands prix (painting and etching).
Some former communication [p. 2] was, Mr. Whistler believes, not answered as it referred to some single "gold medal". This he supposed therefore must have concerned the fate of some one else.
Mr Whistler sends his compliments and thanks for your notification -
and I am
Very truly yours
E. W. Secretary -
