Dr Sir
Whistler
The Solicitor to the Metropolitan Board writes us that an appointment has been made by Mr Vulliamy[3] to call see you - We hope therefore by the time this reaches you - things will be all arranged - We have tonight a certificate from Mr Nightingale[4] - but we feel bound to stay our hands until we are assured as to the future of the building
Yours

Notes:
1. George and William Webb
JW's lawyers.
2. Edward William Godwin
JW's new house and studio, the White House in Tite Street, was designed by Edward William Godwin (1833-1886), architect and designer [more].
3. Mr Vulliamy
George John Vulliamy (1817-1886), Superintending Architect with the Metropolitan Board of Works, London [more]. The Metropolitan Board of Works were slow in giving JW planning permission for his new house, the White House on Tite Street, and withheld the lease until alterations were made to the facade. Payment for building costs was dependent on their certificate (see contract, #08927).
4. Mr Nightingale
Benjamin Ebenezer Nightingale (b. 1838), builder [more].
