Jany 3d 1889

Dear Mr Whistler

I am sure you will be pleased to hear that the Committee[2] formed for the purpose of arranging the dinner in your honour has been largely augmented and by names no less illustrious than the following
J. E. Boehm R. A.
Wm Anderson F. R. C. S.
G. Clausen
S. J. Solomon
A. Gilbert A. R. A - Chas Keene -
Frank Short - Stuart Wortley -
J. J. Shannon - John Sargent -
Albert Moore - and Sarasate -

[p. 2] I have had the pleasure of receiving most enthusiastic letters from all these gentlemen -

The Committee now numbers twenty-two - we wish to meet at an early date - It is thought that it would be well if at that meeting we were able to say that the consent of the Chairman had been obtained -

Can you therefore let me know if Mr Labouchere[3] is willing to take the chair?

Failing him, perhaps you may be able to suggest some one else - as little can be done to further events until until it is known who will fill that important place -

[p. 3] Assuring you of the determination of the Committee to make this thing a great success - and with all good wishes to you and Mrs Whistler[4] in the new year -

I remain
yours sincerely

Wm. Christian Symons.
