April 13th
'1891'[3]
I must write to tell you that I have seen the 'Carlyle[4]' at Goupils[5]. I can't possibly tell you what I thought of it so I won't try; but certainly it is the most lovely thing I have ever seen - and the grandest - & the saddest.
[p. 2] And why on earth it is going to Glasgow - and for a thousand pounds - I cannot possibly imagine.
I go out of town the beginning of next week for about ten days. I hope, when I return, the mysterious work[6] will be over & we shall be able to meet
With kind regards
Sincerely yours
Graham Roberston
