Ayant pris la liberté de demander votre adresse au président de l'exposition de la rue de Sèze, ou [sic] j'ai appris par hasard que vous aviez exposé, & je viens de recevoir une réponse de Monsieur Carrier-Belleuse[2] qui a eu l'amabilité de bien vouloir me l'envoyer.
Voici la chose dont-il s'agit. Mon frère à [sic] herité il y a une vingtaine d'années - (1879) de peintures portraits signés de votre nom. Ces objets étaient la proprieté de Me. H. Aubrée sa soeur,
C'est pour cela que je desirerais savoir s'ils sont de vous ou d'un [p. 2] homonyme portant le même nom Car ses peintures[3] dâtes au moins de 1855 où [sic] 1856.1o. Il y a un portrait de l'auteur peint par lui même,
2o. Un portrait de Me. H. Aubrée
3o. & un portrait de Me. H. Aubrée à la plume
Et comme se sont des souvenirs de famille, on serais heureux d'être renseignés sur ces tableaux.
Si vous êtes assez aimable de bien vouloir me répondre, je vous en serais reconnaissant.
Puis si vous desirez voir de visu je me ferais un plaisir de vous le faire voir, soit en me présentant chez vous le jour où il vous plaira, [p. 3] où en venant vous même les voir.
Alors je me ferais un plaisir de vous recevoir. & de vous montrer ces doux souvenirs Puis si nous avons cet honneur - Je me ferais un plaisir de vous questionner si toutefois il est en votre pouvoir sur quelques peintures que ma grand'mère possède surtout sur un tableau dont j'ai appris le nom en visitant le Château de Chenonceau, Apollon chez Admète - ce dit tableau est d'environ 1.m. 60 x 1.m 10. & d'après la peinture il à un air de vieillesse - le dérangement ne seras pas grand car nous [p. 4] demeurons tous dans la même maison. avec mes parents.

This is the matter concerning it. About twenty years ago (1879) my brother inherited some portrait paintings signed with your name. These objects were the property of Miss H Aubree his sister,
It is for that reason that I should like to know if they are by you or by a man of the same name Since these pictures date from at least 1855 or 1856.1o. There is a self-portrait,
2o. A portrait of Miss H Aubree
3o. & a pen-portrait of Miss H Aubree
And as they are family souvenirs, we should be happy to receive information about these pictures.
If you would be kind enough to reply, I should be grateful.
Then if you would like to see for yourself it would give me pleasure to show them to you, either by my presenting myself to you on a day of your choosing or by your coming yourself to see them.
Therefore I would be happy to see you. & and to show you these sweet souvenirs Then if we have that honour - I would be happy to ask you questions if it were within your power about some paintings which my grandmother possesses above all a painting whose name I learned on visiting the Chateau de Chenonceau, Apollo With Admete - this painting is about 1.m.60 x 1.m.10. & the painting looks old - it would not be a great inconvenience as we all live in the same house. With my parents.
