Mary Williams may have been a relative of Mary Billings (1835-1902), née Williams [more], or Captain Seth Williams (b. 1841?), of Stonington, CT, an early patron of JW [more].

A letter in JW's hand with an envelope postmarked 1893 is bound into a copy of Whistler, James McNeill, The Gentle Art of Making Enemies, 2nd ed., London and New York, 1892. This is advertised for sale by the Heritage Book Shop, Los Angeles CA, 2004 (cat. no. 445). It is described as follows: 'Deluxe binding of full green morocco (mellowed to light brown), gilt spine compartments, gilt spine lettering, large gilt arabesque on front cover with red morocco inlays (flower petals), gilt board edges and turn-ins, green moire silk endpapers, top edge gilt.'
