[The Musée du Louvre gives JW permission to copy Mignard's La Vierge à la grappe[3]]
This document is protected by copyright.
Notes:
1. Musée du Louvre
Authorisation may have come from Alfred Emilien O'Hara (1811-1892), Comte de Nieuwerkerke, sculptor, Directeur-General des Musées [more], as in the case of JW's admission card to the Louvre.
2. D
The document is recorded by Fleming, Gordon, The Young Whistler 1834-66, London, Boston, Sydney, 1978, p. 134. The text has not been transcribed.
3. La Vierge à la grappe
Copy after Mignard's 'La Vierge à la grappe' (YMSM 12). It is possible that this copy was made for Captain Seth Williams (b. 1841?), of Stonington, CT, an early patron of JW [more], or, more likely, for W. Richard ('Dick') Suydam Palmer (1834-1870), son of Courtlandt and Mary Ann Palmer [more].
