This letter, which has not been located, is quoted by JW in a letter to Alan Summerly Cole (1846-1934), textile expert and museum official [more] (#07888), dated by references to the Dudley Gallery (see below).

As described by JW, the Dudley Gallery sent him an 'official note' of the sale of his picture, but this has not been located. This summary transcription is entirely in JW's hand.
