2 Lindsey Houses, Chelsea -

Monday June 22 - 1874

Dear Jack -

I have received your letter enclosing me cheque for two hundred guineas - for the two pictures - "Nocturne in Grey & Gold" (Southampton Water)[2] and "Nocturne in Grey & Silver" - (Battersea) [3]-

Many thanks -

Jennings[4] has not sent yet - and I dont know his address - had not you better write him a line? - If you can spare the Southampton a [p. 2] little longer I should like it - but if you are waiting for it I must try and find something to put in its place -

Ever Yours

J A McN. Whistler -

I had once promised to let Grapel[5] have the first chance at the Valparaiso[6] piece if I ever finish it - But we will see -
