He was born at Statbrook Hall near Tamwoth in Staffordshire.
Life:
A solicitor, in 1881 he was unmarried and living as a lodger in the house of Frederick G. Gwyther, banker's clerk at 34 Chalcot Crescent, Primrose Hill, London. He was in touch with WHistler in 1882 only, as far as is known, in a legal capacity.
However, he was a member of The Arts Club from 1866-1894, and Whistler was a member for part of that period, so they may also have met there,
