Identity:
James Lawton Wingate was a Scottish landscape, animal and figure painter.
Life:
Wingate was a regular exhibitor at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, the Royal Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy and elsewhere. In 1886 he was elected to the R.S.A. He went on to be elected president from 1919-23.
