Identity:
He was the youngest son of Ross Winans of Baltimore, and therefore related through marriage to JW. He married Elizabeth Howell, daughter of John Howell, daughter of John Howell, a farmer in London. He died in a nursing home in 1928.
Life:
In 1888 he was living at 22 Brechin Place, London.
He was a civil engineer. Whistler is said to have painted his portrait, Portrait of Walter Winans (YMSM 199).
