Nationality: American
Date of Birth: 1859.07.19
Place of Birth: Midway, Ohio
Date of Death: 1932
Place of Death: Ipswich, MA

Identity:

Theodore M. Wendel was a painter and printmaker.

Life:

Wendel was a student of Frank Duveneck. He featured in the 1881 spring Exhibition of American Etchings at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the first Exhibition of the Society of Painters-Etchers in London, an organisation which he had joined in April 1882 but from which he was excluded in November 1889 for non-payment of dues.

Wendel was active at Giverny, where he was influenced by Claude Monet, but later moved to Ipswich, Massachusetts, near Boston and the Atlantic coast.

Wendel was introduced to etching by JW in Venice in the summer of 1880, and his etchings show a strong influence of JW in technique, subject matter, and composition.
