Identity:
John William Waterhouse was a genre, historical and biblical painter. He studied with his father, a painter and at the Royal Academy Schools.
Life:
He developed a style which though it initially owed much to Alma Tadema, evolved into in a late Pre-Raphaelite romanticism. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1874 and at the Society of British Artists, Grosvenor Gallery and New Gallery amongst others.
