Mrs E. D. Wallace was a poet, novelist and writer on art.
Life:
She also wrote travel books and social commentaries. Her books include Strife. A Romance of Germany and Italy, Philadelphia, 1871, a The Wits and Beaux of Society, 1890 and The Queens of Society, 1890. She wrote articles regularly for various journals, such as 'A Woman's Experiences in Europe, including England, France, Germany and Wales', first published in The Atlantic Monthly, vol. 30, issue 177, July 1872; and 'Memorial Institutions' , Home Knowledge, vol. 2, 1, New York, 1887.
Whistler met her in 1876 when she was travelling in Europe, and wrote an article on Whistler's etchings for Forney's Weekly Press, Philadelphia, 1 April 1876) (see #09550).
