Identity:
Ludwig Johann Passini was a genre and portrait painter, watercolourist and printmaker. He was the son of the painter-printmaker Johann Passini.
Life:
Passini studied at the Vienna Academy with Petter, Fuhrich, Kupelwieser and Ender, and in Leipzig with Carl Werner. He largely worked in Rome and Venice. In 1878 he was awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. He won medals in Paris in 1870, Vienna in 1873 and 1888, Munich in 1879 and Berlin in 1896. He exhibited in London at the Royal Academy and Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. In 1883 he was elected an honorary member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. In 1893 he was awarded the Order of Merit for Art and Science.
