Identity:

Frederick H. A. Parker was a landscape and genre painter.

Life:

Parker's genre scenes mostly involved children, for example, A Truant, and, interestingly in the context of JW, A Girl in White. He was active between 1881 and 1904, during which time he exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, Manchester City Art Gallery, New English Art Club and [Royal] Society of British Artists, a society that appointed JW its President in 1886. He became a member of the latter in 1890, after JW was forced to resign his Presidency. In 1887 he became a member of the New English Art Club, a group with which JW exhibited at their first show in 1888.

Parker was among those included by William Christian Symons in initial dinner preparations for the Criterion dinner, held on 1 May 1889 to congratulate JW on being made an honorary member of the Royal Academy in Munich [#00631, #05635].
